I just made use of a backstage seat to the Uni orchestra’s rehearsal. It’s amazing how the discordant sound of a 100 instruments tuning is suddenly silenced by the raising of a baton and in a split second, there’s music of the kind that can drown you. Watching an orchestral performance is very different from sitting amid one, feeling the vibrations of the horns and the trumpets beneath your feet, letting waves of sound just roll over you, feeling yourself just about touch the depths of experience.
Why have I not done this before?
